Men's Health

At any age, talk to your PCP if you have risk factors or symptoms. You may need to be tested earlier than the recommended age.

Remember that there are still shots that you need to receive.

  • > Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) or Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) shot is needed every 10 years.
  • > Influenza (flu) shot should be received every year starting at age 50.

Regular well checkups are important to stay active and healthy. Remember to:

  • > Eat healthy food
  • > Be active
  • > Maintain a healthy weight
  • > Do not smoke
  • > Drink alcohol in moderation.

20 and up, every five years

Blood Pressure

18 and up, every two years

  • Alcohol use
  • High salt intake

Most PCPs will do this as part of a well-check.

Diabetes

45 and up, every three years

  • Family history

  • Weight
  • Diet

Depression

All ages

  • Anger
  • Aggression
  • Work "burnout"
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Family history
  • Marital problems
  • Hormonal changes
  • Heart problems
  • Chronic illnesses
  • Anxiety disorder
  • Major life changes such as the death of a loved one or loss of a job

Talk to your PCP or call behavioral health at your county provider.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)

When sexually active, ask your PCP how often you should be screened

  • Being sexually active
  • Unprotected sex
  • More than one sex partner

 

Prostate Cancer

50 and up, yearly

  • Age
  • Race
  • Family history
  • Diet

The two tests available for early detection, PSA and DRE, are not 100 percent accurate. Talk to your PCP about benefits and risks of screening.

Testicular Cancer

As part of regular cancer screening

  • Family history
  • Lump or swelling of the testicle

Colon Cancer

50 and up

  • Age
  • Previous colon cancer
  • History of polyps
  • History of bowel disease
  • Diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Overweight
  • Smoking
  • Heavy alcohol use
