Better health for Kansas

Aetna Better Health is focused on our KanCARE members, especially with regard to health equity

around maternal health issues. We have made progress regarding pre- and postpartum care between race and ethnicities.

Beginning in 2020, we have shown a nearly 14% increase in postpartum care for our black members who are pregnant. High-risk pregnancies can be prevalent for individuals on Medicaid. At Aetna Better Health of Kansas, we have focused outreach to help our members with high-risk pregnancies.

Through our efforts, we have reached over 30,000 members who meet the target criteria. Because of these efforts, we have seen a 3.6% reduction in emergency room visits during the third trimester, a 3.1% reduction in newborns with NICU stays, and a 7.8 reduction in total low birth weight

NICU days.

As a Medicaid managed care health plan, Aetna Better Health of Kansas participates in national accreditation surveys with organizations such as the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Aetna Better Health of Kansas has consistently received scores of 99 and 100% on these efforts.

We have also scored consistently high and show an annual improvement on the annual Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems surveys. In recent surveys, Aetna Better Health of Kansas has reached a satisfaction score of over 89% on our members getting needed care quickly. Our Long-Term Services and Supports members have also rated as high on these surveys, with over 97% of members giving our service coordinators a high score for their efforts. We work to serve our members with quality health services.
