Starting January 1, 2022, you will get your covered prescriptions through Medi-Cal Rx instead of Aetna Better Health of California.
Covered prescriptions are medications and medical supplies that your doctor prescribes that you pick up later at the pharmacy.
Aetna Better Health of California will continue to cover physician administered drugs (PADs). Physician administered drugs are medications you receive from a provider while you are in a doctor’s office, a hospital, or an infusion center. If you have questions regarding a physician administered drug, you can give us a call at 1-855-772-9076 (TTY: 711).
Medi-Cal pharmacy benefit is now called “Medi-Cal Rx."
Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) contracted with Magellan Medicaid Administration, Inc. (Magellan) to provide pharmacy services (Medi-Cal Rx).
No, the cost of your medications will not change.
Most people will not need to change their medications. Your doctor may need to get approval to refill some prescriptions. He or she may talk to you about changing to a medication that does not require prior approval.
If you need help finding a pharmacy, visit online. You can find pharmacies near you by entering your zip code or city. On the website, you can also click on the “filter” button to locate pharmacies with specific services, such as mail order or delivery. For mail order services, you may want to call the pharmacy to check if the service is provided. The website may not show all pharmacies offering mail order services.
Please show the pharmacy your Medi-Cal Benefits Identification Card (BIC) when picking up your medications.
