Rides when you need them

Need a ride to your doctor appointments? Let us give you a lift. We cover medical, nonmedical and emergency transportation services. Just call Member Services 72 hours in advance at 1-855-772-9076 (TTY: 711)

Your nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) services

Your nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) services

We make it easy to get to all your medical appointments. You can use NEMT when your condition prevents you from getting to your appointment by car, bus, train or taxi. Depending on your condition, we’ll pick you up in an ambulance, litter van, wheelchair van or air transport. All rides are free after Aetna Better Health® of California approves them.

You must use NEMT when:

  • It is physically or medically needed as determined with a written prescription by a physician, dentist, podiatrist, or mental health or substance abuse provider
  • You are not able to physically or medically use a bus, taxi, car or van to get to your appointment
  • Aetna Better Health approves it in advance with a written prescription by a physician, dentist, podiatrist, or mental health or substance use disorder provider

We also give you rides to see your specialists. You can use NMT for Aetna Better Health appointments prescribed by your doctor. You can use any public or private transportation to get to your appointment. All rides are free after Aetna Better Health of California approves them. We’ll reimburse mileage when you use a private vehicle. And we’ll give you rides to pick up your prescriptions and medical supplies.

How to get NEMT or NMT

Give us a call if you need a ride somewhere. You must call us 72 hours before the requested trip. You can call Member Services at 1-855-772-9076 (TTY: 711).

NEMT and NMT limits

There are no limits for how many rides you can use. Sometimes, Medi-Cal covers the service instead of us. If this happens, we will help you schedule your ride.
