SoonerCare is a government program that provides no-cost or low-cost health care for millions of Americans. Adults and children who qualify meet certain state guidelines. Eligibility is based on your total family income and household size. What is SoonerSelect?

What is SoonerSelect?

Starting April 2024, most SoonerCare members will get coverage for health care services in a new way  — through health and dental plans. These plans provide health care services through a network of doctors, dentists, pharmacies and other providers.

SoonerSelect is working with health and dental plans to:

  • Improve health outcomes

  • Move toward a system where we pay providers based on quality of care rather than just service

  • Improve your satisfaction

  • Focus on preventive and primary care

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) is working with health and dental plans to coordinate care for most members, including:

  • Pregnant women

  • Children

  • Parents and caretaker relatives

  • Expansion adults

  • Newborns (when the mother is eligible for Medicaid on the date of birth)

If you’re in one of these groups, you’ll join a SoonerSelect health plan. OHCA will ask you to choose one. If you don’t choose, they’ll choose one for you.

Juvenile justice-involved children and those in foster care will enroll in the SoonerSelect Children’s Specialty Program.

American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) members can opt in if they’d like to join a SoonerSelect plan. If an AI/AN member decides not to opt in, they will continue to receive the same SoonerCare coverage they already have.
