Understanding CHIP Costs

Your family’s size and income will determine which CHIP coverage option is available for your child. There are three options when qualifying for CHIP: Free, Low-cost, or Full-cost CHIP*

Premiums are the monthly payments that you pay to Aetna Better Health Kids for CHIP coverage. You will receive a monthly bill for the upcoming month’s coverage if your child is enrolled in Low-cost or Full-cost CHIP. For example, you would receive a bill in April for coverage in May. There are no premiums for members with Free CHIP coverage.

Be sure to pay the premium on time. If the premium is not paid by the due date on the bill, or is paid after the due date, your child may lose CHIP coverage and may not be eligible again until three (3) months from the date the coverage ends.

If a premium amount changes during the benefit period, you will receive a notice via mail from Aetna Better Health Kids of the change. You will receive this notice 30 days before the change takes place.

It is important to keep your address on file up to date. You will receive monthly invoices and premium change notices from us at your address on file.
