  • New Treatment Option for Sickle Cell Disease Available to Aetna Better Health of Maryland

     

    Aetna Better Health of Maryland has expanded access to new cell and gene therapies for people with sickle cell disease as of January 1, 2026. These treatments work by changing your stem cells so your body can make healthy red blood cells. They may reduce pain episodes and hospital visits.


    You may be eligible if you have Aetna Better Health of Maryland, are age 12 or older, and meet medical requirements. Treatment is available at approved centers, including the University of Maryland Medical Center and Children’s National Medical Center.


    Talk with your health care provider to see if this treatment may be right for you. You can also contact your Aetna Better Health of Maryland at 1-866-827-2710 (TTY: 711) for coverage details.

    Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a virus that can make babies very sick. It spreads easily through coughs, sneezes, or by touching infected surfaces, causing breathing problems, fever, and lung infections like pneumonia. RSV is the top reason babies go to the hospital.
