Medicaid is a government program that provides free health care for millions of Americans. In Illinois, it’s called HealthChoice Illinois. Qualified individuals are covered for a wide variety of benefits and services including:  

 

  • Preventive care 

  • Vision 

  • Medications 

  • Chronic disease management  

  • Behavioral health services

To qualify for Medicaid in Illinois, your financial situation must be characterized as:

 

  • Low income; or 

  • Very low income.

 You must also fit into one or more of these categories:    

 

  • Be pregnant or have a child under 18; or  

  • Be blind or disabled or have a spouse in your household who is blind or disabled; or   

  • Be over the age of 64 years of age

We cover services such as assisted living, meals, rides and more. To qualify for managed long-term services and supports (MLTSS), you must meet the state’s criteria for needing an institutional level of care and certain financial requirements.
