Renewing your HealthChoice Illinois coverage
At Aetna Better Health® of Illinois, we want to continue getting you the health care coverage you need without any disruption. Every 12 months, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will determine if you or your family members still qualify for HealthChoice Illinois. This review process is called redetermination.
You should get a Medicaid Benefits Renewal Form in the mail from HFS. They’ll verify all the information you used to get your HealthChoice Illinois coverage last year. If nothing has changed, sign and return the form. Upon receipt of your completed form, HFS will renew your HealthChoice Illinois coverage automatically. And you’ll get a notice telling you that you’re still covered.
If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, you have options. You may be able to connect to coverage at work or through the official Affordable Care Act marketplace for Illinois, GetCoveredIllinois.gov.
Did any of your information change?
Your Medicaid Benefits Renewal Form may be prepopulated with past information that HFS has on your household. Correct any incorrect information and add anything that is missing. You’ll have 30 days to send your completed form and supporting information back to HFS.

By phone: You can renew your coverage by calling 1-800-843-6154 (TTY: 1-866-324-5553).

You always have options. You can switch your health plan once within 90 days of enrollment. After that, you can change plans once a year during open enrollment. HFS will send an open enrollment letter 60 days before your anniversary date. You'll have 60 days during your open enrollment to change plans by calling Client Enrollment Services at 1-877-912-8880. You can only do this once. After the 60 days - whether you changed plans or not - you'll have to stay with that plan for 12 months. You can choose Aetna Better Health of Illinois through Illinois Client Enrollment Services.
